2008 Club Race Schedule
UCI race regulations
Club races are a lot of fun. All members of the club may participate in the club races, and there are no race entry fees for club
members. Non-club members are welcome to participate in club races, but they must hold an Alberta Bicycling Association (ABA) license and be of masters age (30+). Non club members are required to pay
$5 to enter a club race for insurance purposes.
A race may be cancelled due to unfavourable weather conditions or lack of participation. The race organizer will make the final decision on
whether a race will be held. If a race is cancelled, it usually will not be rescheduled.
Additionally there are races organized by the Alberta Bicycling Association (ABA) - see the 2008 ABA race schedule. In order to compete in an ABA race, you will need either an annual ABA license or a Race Day License (RDL). The RDL is ideal for riders who want to try racing and gain experience without committing to a full year ABA membership. The rider is limited to 2 RDL events per season, which can be for any time trial race except for the Provincial Championship.
For more information on bicycle racing rules and regulations, including ability and age categories, refer to the CCA Rulebook.
Please note the following ABA regulations:
- Crankmasters club members must wear the Crankmasters jersey during ABA races. In addition, it is strongly recommended that Crankmasters club
members also wear the Crankmasters jersey during club races.
- All new Masters licensees, regardless of age or gender, will be placed in Category 5. If a Masters rider has previously raced in Category 1/2,
3. or 4, the current category will be retained unless the rider requests, in writing to the ABA, a downgrade to Category 5.
- ABA single event licenses will only be available for the ABA Individual Time Trial series, and will no longer be offered for road races, team time
trials or criteriums. If you are contemplating racing road, team time trial or criterium races, you must get a full ABA license.
In order to participate in club races, all racers will have to sign a waiver. It would be most helpful to bring a pre-signed copy of the waiver to
the event.

The Calgary Crankmasters Cycling Club organizes this day event as a club "get to know our friendly competitors experience". You need no
racing experience. We want all club members to come out and enjoy a day that provides all of us an opportunity to ride and learn from those who have spun through a few races in their careers.
We start with a warm up lap to give everyone a chatting spin while racing knowledge is bandied about freely and rookies absorb all they can
about drafting, peleton forms, team riding efficiency, safe cornering and strategizing including when to sprint for the finish line.
First race is a 1 lap individual time trial. Each rider is started independently and rides solo and the elapsed time is recorded at the finish line.
Second race is a 1 lap team time trial. Teams will be made up by organizers using a fair system based on riders ITT results. The team size will be
determined at the event but will be made up of either 4, 5 or 6 riders at the most. This is a great time for the experienced team members to share
knowledge and expertise and rookies to feel the thrill of being coached, coddled and comforted by their fellow team members as they ride in
close formation. The last rider's time will be used unless there is a mechanical failure then the last of the remaining riders time will be used. The
third and final race is a series of road races. Here riders will be able to put their final effort and new found racing acumen to the test. Each race
will consist of only 5 to 8 riders to help ensure safety and will be comprised of riders with similar ITT times. Each rider will be carrying the
colours of their team they rode with during the TTT. This is sure to bring the cheering to a rising crescendo as the finish line is approached.
The last of the races will have the clubs' best riders strutting their speed and finish line punch.
It's our hope that many new and experienced riders will come out. We can get to know each other a little better, gain some valuable racing
experience in the safety and friendly environment of The Calgary Crankmasters Cycling Club and come away with respect for our elite riders
and a real wetted appetite for our own racing potential as our new racing season is launched.
